About Landsat 9
Landsat 9 continues the nearly 50-year Landsat program, the longest-running enterprise for acquisition of satellite imagery of Earth. Flying in a sun-synchronous orbit at approximately 705 km, it captures multispectral images with its Operational Land Imager 2 (OLI-2) and Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 (TIRS-2). Landsat 9 data is used globally for agriculture monitoring, forest management, urban planning, disaster response, and climate research. It revisits the same ground location every 16 days.
